Jenny's Favorite Things

Jenny is growing up so fast.  She is able to express distinct likes and dislikes.

She loves swimming,
but is too cautious to jump off of the edge alone

She adores her baby sister
and tries to comfort her when she's crying.

She likes wearing Mommy's socks and shoes,
 and Daddy's socks and shoes,
                                        (knee, ouch!)
but she wants to take off her own shoes as soon as we get in the car.

She loves to read books, and her sense of humor is developing.
She is also keen on the "where's Waldo?" approach to books (i.e. finding gold bug and lowly worm)

She wants to wear her glasses,
but gets frustrated if they won't go on right.  She has started putting them on right side up however :)

She likes music and has just started to sing.
She's not really supposed to be in this cabinet, but how can I say "no" to this??

She now asks for the "mink minkie" and "white minkie" at bedtime, will refuse the orange cup when she wants the purple cup, asks to use the "doggy potty" (frog), and wants to "ug" everyone to delay bedtime.
When she finishes her sandwich, she will ask for fruit, go'fish, chips and cookies.
She will randomly remember a cousins name (frequently "Lora" "Iby" or "baby Water") then she goes down the list of all she can remember at the time.  The other day, she was quite proud of herself for remembering "baby Edah" who is usually forgotten.

Have you ever prayed for wisdom in parenting?  I know I have.  My Bible study has been talking about Solomon: lucky guy, God just gave him wisdom.  But God says He will give us wisdom too;  all we have to do is ask...in faith...without wavering. (James 1:5)  Do I really believe that God will give it to me just like that?

Then God goes on to describe what this wisdom is like (James 3:17).  It kind of sounds like God's love.  Pure.  Peaceable. Gentle. Am I gentle with my children? Reasonable. Am I reasonable in my expectations and responses?  Full of mercy and good fruits.  Do I show them mercy?  Are they bringing forth fruit under my care? Unwavering.  This one caught me by surprise.  Wisdom is unwavering? I can see love being unwavering, but wisdom?? I am grateful that God gave me a husband who encourages me to be unwavering.  I think I fall pretty firmly in the merciful camp. :)

Finally, it is without hypocrisy.  Hypo-criticism: not looking closely enough at yourself to see if you have the same faults you are condemning in others.  I see a lot of material trying to build my self image, but am I also trying to remove my faults?

I find myself skimming over lists in the Bible so easily.  Today I wanted wisdom, and God brought it through the reading of His Word.

Hello, the name's Legato.
Apparently my humans think this is a funny name, but I refuse to be amused.

This is my brother, Marcato.  We have recently acquired some new humans.

They are adequately intimidated by our presence.

If they think the new fence will keep me in, they are mistaken.

Marcato may be basking in the attention, but I prefer to keep my feelings to myself.

Okay, so maybe I indulge in the occasional caress, one must keep the humans happy.

The yard is teeming with prey, having had no proprietors for quite some time.
There is also a fascinating bush.

The little human is quite entertaining.

Marcato is quite easily spooked, so this morning I sneaked up behind him and...

yooowwwwl! heeheeheeheehee...err *ahem*.

Until next time,

Legato & Marcato
