Alexa, Butterflies, and Cats - A Tale of Deadly Peril and Narrow Escapes

Sam the Swallowtail here.  I'm only a few hours old, but I already understand a lot about the world.

1. Looks Can Be Deceiving

See this little girl here?  She looks cute and innocent, but deep inside her there is...
 a butterfly smasher!!
Those fingers in the lower right hand corner saved my life.
She even cried about being stopped in her destructive efforts.

 2. Never Turn Your Back on a Cat

While letting my wings dry out, I watched a cat try to catch a blue jay.

I was taking a break on the grass after my first flight, when the flapping of my wings attracted the attention of the same cat.  Those same fingers saved me again, pulling me out of reach while the cat wasn't looking.
It's a good thing she didn't look up.

3. Don't Judge By First Impressions

Based on my life as a caterpillar, I would have thought that this girl would have terrorized me as a butterfly.  However, she seemed more interested in playing in her house,
and taking pictures with Mommy's camera than in petting or holding me.
Whereas, who can tell what this little monster ate last??
